How to know when the clay courts can be played on after a rain

There exists no single rule of thumb but a few common sense observations.

  1. If the Clubhouse is open please check with club attendants. They are vested with the responsibility of making the decision at all times.

  2. If the Clubhouse is not open, here are a few guidelines you may want to follow. If clay was recently added, you should be aware that water is likely to seep in more rapidly but that the surface may be even more susceptible to deep dents due to a soft surface. Please use your best judgment as if the facility were your own. After the new clay has been on for a week or so, the surface hardens and is less susceptible to large dents. Then you have to check whether there are still areas of soft, sticky, or slippery mud, particularly behind the base lines of courts # 1 and 4 at the wind screen end. Courts # 2 and 3 are usually ready 1-2 hours before courts # 1 and 4 since the irrigation system has become less than perfect.

  3. At all times please consider that the facility is also for the enjoyment of those who will play after you. Damaging the surface will result in closing the courts for repair.
